Description: Alaska is home to all five of North America’s loon species, two grebe species, and a huge variety of coastal and open-water seabirds.

Geographic Extent: Alaska is the largest of the U.S. States and includes a large variety of ecosystems, including marine, coastal plains and tundra, mountain ranges, and diverse forests.

BCRs: Aleutian/Bearing Sea Islands (BCR 1), Western Alaska (BCR 2), and the U.S. portions of Arctic Plains and Mountains (BCR 3), Northwestern Interior Forest (BCR 4) and Northern Pacific Rainforest (BCR 5), as well as the adjacent waters of the Gulf of Alaska, and Chukchi, Beaufort, and East Bering Seas.

Alaska Seabird Series coverAlaska Seabird Information Series, USFWS, Migratory Bird Management, Nongame Program. The Alaska Seabird Information Series (ASIS) is a compilation of seabird species accounts for all seabirds breeding in Alaska and five important nonbreeders. Conservation status, life history, distribution, population size and trends, conservation concerns, and recommended management actions are included in the accounts. The five nonbreeders were selected due to concerns about bycatch in Alaskan fisheries.
