Description: Though primarily arid land, there are some riparian and freshwater wetlands important to waterbirds, especially along the Lower Colorado River and the Salton Sea in se CA.

Geographic Extent: Includes the ecosystems of the Sonoran, Mohave, and Chihuahuan deserts, and the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range, occurring in the U.S.

BCRs: U.S. portions of the Sonoran and Mohave Deserts (BCR 33) Sierra Madre Occidental (BCR 34) and Chihuahuan Desert (BCR 35).

Bird Habitat Joint Ventures: Sonoran Desert Joint Venture, Rio Grande Joint Venture

Political Units: California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas (U.S.)
